My Top 10 Predicitons of 2010

02Feb10

Here are my Top 10 of things I’m personally looking forward to this year and some I just hope I’m wrong about!

It will be interesting to see how many I get right or rather, get drastically wrong. What are your thoughts about these predictions? Do you have any yourself? Share them!

  1. 3DTV is released. With an impressive launch, a lot of buzz will develop but like HDTV, people will be slow in getting it. Technology will still be expensive and channels limited. Still, the launch itself is the buzz and it’s that I look forward to experiencing this year.
  2. World of Warcraft Expansion; Cataclysm is released. It out sells previous expansion; Wrath of the Lich king in terms of 1 day and 1 week sales. More crazy media stories appear about kids doing “all nighters” on this expansion to the cost of their own health and sanity! The Mastermind also buys a copy and books a day off from work to study this interesting phenomenon :p.
  3. The UK get a summer heat wave similar to the late one we received last year, only then to be followed by relentless rain and thunderstorms before been given a reprieve of “one or two reasonable, dry but cool days” before restarting the whole pattern again.
  4. Mobile phone manufactures become increasingly competitive against each other in the bids to secure the ever growing dominant mobile market. Android and iPhone battle heats up to a much split 50:50 debate between its client base with Steve Job fans supporting iPhone and open source wiki media types preferring the hard to ignore and fast evolving Android OS.
  5. Contrary to “Techies” and experts opinions on the newly announced iPad, is not a big a flop as most predicted it would be. Instead, the product opens the gap in the market for a product to further close on social media and interactivity with cool hip cosmopolitan types and “hasn’t a bloody clue” computer illiterate types who like the coolness of a tablet product that pretty much combines the functionality of a laptop with the portability of a touch screen Smartphone. Could products like the Amazon Kindle and Sony Reader already be pushed out of its own market by the demand of more iPad type products? Perhaps the iPad will become its own biggest enemy by opening this market for many manufactures to jump on the bandwagon?
  6. The Ironman 2 movie is a blockbuster let down receiving lukewarm reviews suffering from a mediocre acting from the lead stars and a somewhat boring and over complex plot line. However, actor Mickey Rourke puts in an epic performance in his role as the villain “Whip-lash” and he pretty much saves the film.
  7. Another Apple product is announced with some screenshots. iPhone 4G anyone?
  8. The PS3 and Xbox debate continues but Microsoft deals a massive blow to Sony and Nintendo with the successful launch of there “Natal” Product at the end of this year. The product becomes a bestseller with all ages and even the Nintendo Wii is faced to concede to a now rival type product which appeals to both hardcore gamers and games with fun interactivity that is often associated with the current Wii offering.
  9. That is until week’s later, Sony start building media hype with the announcement of a new console type product with a release date of late 2011. It is unsure if the product will be the “Playstation 4” instead, hinting that the product is new but gives insight to it having similar offering that “Natal” will offer.
  10. Yahoo and MSN announce further news of their partnership deal. A new media platform for Search by the two SE’s is announced for Digital agencies/individuals/professionals alike making submissions to Yahoo and MSN easier and more ‘combined’ hinting that perhaps this is the beginning of a move to rival search engine monster Google.

  1. Chrome OS will be released along with a new Google Tablet and will be everything the IPad should have been.

Also Blueray players will become the norm, currently available for an amazing £99.99 on Amazon these will creep down to potentially sub £50 by the end of the year eliminating the DVD player from the market and be a Christmas best seller of 2010.

    • I agree with what you say about Blu-Ray. Although Apple TV and other download/stream services could be its sucess is limited or premature?
