Too many pies?

11Feb10

Google.

We certainly know of it. We love it. We use it EVERYDAY!

But has Google truly tried to bite off more than it can chew of late? We know that the industry is an exciting as any, fast paced, ever changing and ever evolving but recently Google has announced, launched or hinted at quite a few ventures.

Let’s take some quick examples, Google Wave, Google Buzz, Android OS (least not forgetting the Nexus One as well), Chrome and now offering broadband services? Yup, Google now not only content with providing you with search but the means in which to get online to search.

What’s next? A gaming console to rival Nintendo and Sony?

Is this Google’s way of throwing its weight and truly
dominate everything online?

Is there many to rival Google? People talk in terms of search that the deal between MSN and Yahoo! Could be the only probable rival to do so but with no real buzz coming from them of late, are Google taking the imitative and not giving anyone breathing space? It would make sense to do so and it would certainly cement Google for an exciting and rather dominant future.

What are your thoughts?

Do you think Google could pull it off or will it flounder in having too many fingers in too many pies?

  1. I think you could be right here. The Big G is definitely getting around at the moment and whilst we have seen a fair bit of horizontal expansion, this is definitely a move down the vertical chain. (However, they did offer free WiFi services across a host of US airports at the end of last year.)

The new story of Google launching their own ISP service is of definite interest, and for some a step to far maybe. (does the phrase ‘Global domination ring true here!?)

However, let’s not forget that Google make not far off 100% from their paid search links, and anything that they can do to ensure that you have nothing but perfect access to their results page and those ads fits within their ultimate strategy.

I wrote about this with the entry into the mobile phone market at kupr.co.uk/blog
